It took at least ten full hours, and my body will be sore for days, but I,for the first time ever, circuited a lighting plot for a theater and the theater didn’t burn down. Of course, I won’t know for sure until I read the headlines on Playbill tomorrow morning, but I’m prettttty confident. Thanks, Theater Row, and good luck!

Took a much needed Date Night With Myself tonight:

.went to a fantastic reading of a new Halley Feiffer play starring the always phenomenal Reed Birney.

.at said reading, listened to audience member/famed playwright John Guare verbally enjoy himself in a manner normally reserved for the privacy of your own home.

.went and walked the NYC High Line park for the first time (one word recap: stunning), and accidently almost elbowed Joel McHale because I was too busy looking at the scenery (sorry, Joel McHale!).

.walked around more evening streets in NYC, it was a nice walk.

.Sixpoint beer at home, applause to well run evening.

Tonight I get to listen to a professional jazz quintet rock and roll for around two hours while I sit offstage and read Stephen King’s “Under the Dome,” all under the auspices of working. Fantastic! I should book these types of work times more often.

If you happened to be floating around NYC today, or were obsessively checking its weather status on the Weather Channel, you might have noticed it was a perfect day outside. As much as I hate natural light, all I wanted to do was throw frisbees at people (preferably unnoticed) and have a Dairy Queen Blizzard out in the sun. So good job, Nature, you finally got your act together this year for one whole day.

Baseball Game of Victory 8/20/11: Coney Island! Technically professional baseball! The best cheerleaders this side of Scores! Technically actual fireworks! All these bonuses, plus the chance to see several dozen boardwalk hobos all dressed up like Mystery giving dancing tips to whoever foolishly gets close enough (i.e. within a mile). Added triple bonus? Bacon cupcakes. Truly, a day for the memory books.

Evening of Victory 8/16/11: While, yes, I did end up seeing the worst play ever tonight (it literally literally had almost more scene change time then play time), everything was made better by a heart stopping slice of Artichoke (TM) pizza and an evening serenade by a swarthy subway bagpiper. Hats off to you, Swarthy Subway Bagpiper.

. After many months off, my ace trivia team (mostly) reformed to try our hand at Pete’s Candy Store (possibly the hardest trivia in NYC). After a rough start (on what should have been the easiest category), we finally got our (knowledge) act together and got 8th place out of around a couple of dozen teams. A good start, plus they had an excellent PBR and shot combo on the cheap. Go facts!

Moment of Victory 8/8/11: My Dinner with the Manual Chuck Borer. Today I learned how to manually chuck bores into countless yards of metal piping. Will this skill ever come in handy again? Yes, but only if metal pipe shaped aliens attack our planet (hopefully on July 2nd-July 4th for maximum excellence).

I was almost literally crushed by an errant trash bin today. In lieu of that happening though, I executed what must have been a textbook ninja roll out of the way and was not crushed by the errant trash bin. I thank all video games that teach rolling to evade attacks.

. I used a Ramset (Rammmmsetttttttt) for the first time today, and it was excellent. Pretty much, it’s a gun that shoots nails into concrete. Harnessing the power of gunpowder and blank bullets, I was able to secure a wall into the most imposing of concrete columns. Minutes later, I emerged the sole victor. Rammmmmsetttttt.

. I finally watched “Hobo With A Shotgun”: amazingly, my predicted body-count of 33 was woefully underrated. I appreciate that about you, “Hobo With A Shotgun.”

. I had a Mississippi Mud brownie. Deliciousness was tasted.

. I started playing “Vanquish”: the second most fun time I’ve had sliding around on rocket knees shooting renegade Commie killbots.

Tomorrow: I get to learn to how to build (by building) a fully function stud wall!
